What is HIPS?
High impact impact polystyrene (HIPS) is resistant to impact and is therefore used in the manufacture of utensils and home appliances. The brand name of this material is in Highmark market.
Conventional polystyrene is somewhat brittle, although it can be obtained by adding some properties of materials such as polybutadiene to produce a product with good performance. These materials cannot be mixed together naturally due to the effect of intermolecular forces. However, the addition of polybutadiene during the polymerization process results in its chemical bonding with polystyrene to form a copolymer. Thus, polybutadiene is included in the final composition, which leads to the production of resistant polystyrene.
These polystyrenes are used in the construction of houses and in the manufacture of utensils and the body of home appliances and covers because they are durable. They are also used in the manufacture of sports equipment and toys, and can be used in almost any plastic object you have in mind. Can be produced with HIPS polystyrene.
Today, one of the most interesting decisions made by a group of sandwich panel manufacturers is to make the hard and protective layer of sandwich panels from hard polystyrene and the inner layer from EPS or XPS polystyrene.
